A) There are many definitions of health. However, what seems to be common thought of society is that health is a static position achieved when an individual is disease or symptom free.
A) World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or symptoms. Wellness takes the WHO definition of health one step further and views it as a dynamic state of health in which an individual continually progresses towards their maximum potential and higher quality of life. In order to achieve wellness one must first identify and then address the origin of any dysfunction residing in the body by supporting the body’s innate healing capacity.
A) The four quadrants of health originated from an eastern medicine approach of viewing a person as a whole. YWC tailored this approach and designed the Four Quadrants to Health as a simple holistic model approach to support and enhance one’s well-being. The four quadrants YWC uses are: Mechanical, Chemical, Energetic, and Psychological / Spiritual. Mechanical health is the body’s structural system including bones, muscles, nervous system; Chemical health is body chemistry, physiology, and nutritional aspects, the Energetic quadrant is the body’s vital force or subtle life energy; and the Psychological / Spiritual quadrant is our connection with our emotions and higher self. Each quadrant is interrelated and interconnected to the other quadrants.
A) Homeostasis is the balance of all systems in the body. The body is a network or web-like interface where all systems must work optimally in order to achieve optimal health. If a system (i.e. nervous system, endocrine system, digestive system, cardiovascular system, etc.) is out of homeostasis then other systems will over compensate for that insufficient system, and eventually lead to fatigue or shut down of other supporting systems. Homeostasis is the body working in complete harmony with itself and the environment.
A) A wellness lifestyle involves consciously making choices every day that promote wellness in all four quadrants. A wellness lifestyle is nurtured by the foods we eat, the mindfulness of our breath, thoughts about ourselves and others, the quality of our movements, and our responses to the world we live in!
A) A wellness client has set their health potential as a high priority and is willing to make the necessary lifestyle changes. A wellness client implements healthy habits into his / her lifestyle and works in partnership with practitioners to achieve wellness. Practitioners within an integrated center communicate on client care to most efficiently assist the client in achieving their goals. All children have their teeth checked, have regular physical exams for ears, eyes, throat, height, weight and are encouraged to eat right and exercise through play. Many factors play a role in client’s progression; a few of them are: health history, appropriate lifestyle changes, compliance, support network, and client participation. Each client receives a personalized treatment plan outlining the estimated number of visits and type of care suggested to meet their goals.
A) Cost is dependent and variable based on your goals, and to what extent you implement your personalized treatment plan and implement lifestyle changes. The practitioner will take all of this into consideration when developing a plan for you.
A) The nervous system is a controlling system of the body. At its core is the brain and the spinal cord. These two entities (AKA the central nervous system) control all functions and systems in the body. Doctors of Chiropractic specialize in the nervous system. At the foundation of chiropractic the goal is to reduce the mount of neurological irritation to the central nervous system, which can impact all other systems of the body. Your chiropractor will work with you, as your case manager, in identifying the stressors placed on your nervous system and assist you by removing interferences or stressors allowing the body’s systems to achieve homeostasis.

A) This is ultimately the decision of you, the client. As a wellness center we strongly feel it is imperative to receive preventative care. Intermittent care falls under the traditional, static model of healthcare and cannot fully support wellness. A vehicle runs longer and smoother with routine oil changes and tune-ups, and teeth are healthier with routine check-ups and cleaning. Your body deserves and demands the same routine care to as it grows and changes throughout life. Keep in mind – your body is never in a static state of health. Your body is constantly adapting to its environment, and at times it needs some assistance to persevere through a particular stressful event whether that is a car accident, sleeping improperly, and managing blood sugars and foods being placed into its system.
A) CRISIS – state of being in which one debilitated and finds it very difficult to participate in activities of daily living. Dis-ease and/or pain is likely to be present.
ALARM – symptoms and / or an intuitive feeling is present that indicates something is not well, most lifestyle choices made do not promote wellness. Chronic conditions are commonly present in this stage such as pain, allergies, frequent headaches, hormone imbalances, and reduced range of motion are a few examples.
SUSTAIN – this is the highest level that can be achieved in the traditional health care model – getting stamped a good bill of health. This is a stage where symptoms may or may not be present. Many people base their health on whether or not they have symptoms. People in this stage often make choices that will promote wellness up to 50% of the time.
TANSFORM – this stage is the pathway to wellness. Many lifestyles choices positively affect health and disease prevention begins to occur. It would be fair to say that 75% of lifestyle choices made in this phase are directing the person toward wellness.
WELLNESS – this is a stage of dynamic vitality. Around 90% or more of lifestyle choices positively affect health and prevent disease. In the phase your body is working in optimal homeostasis. It is important to understand that the majority of people striving to achieve wellness will ebb and flow between the Wellness and Transform stages throughout life.
A) A doctor or wellness advocate performs a new client consultation consisting of both objective measurements and the client’s subjective input to identify the current stage of health. Existing clients receive periodic wellness update consultations to continually re-evaluate current stages of health.
A) Education is knowledge; and knowledge empowers us to make wise wellness choices. We find that clients who understand how the body works and what it needs to thrive are the ones whose daily choices impact their health the greatest over the long term.
A) Functional medicine (FM) is a field of health care emphasizing homeostasis. FM is science or evidence-based medicine that focuses on the person as a whole rather than disease and views each system of the body as a web of connections, all relating to one another for vitality and balance. In functional medicine the person’s uniqueness is taken into account. The body is viewed as an integrated whole, not simply an isolated set of parts. The emphasis is placed more on identifying functional disorders, normalizing physiological pathways and restoring homeostasis to the entire body. Functional medicine incorporates all healing arts disciplines to achieve the highest level of wellness possible for each person.
