Brian Lum, D.C.
Functional Healthcare Institute (FHI) – Specializing in Genetic Medicine, Functional Medicine, and Integrative Medicine. Expert in diagnosing and treating highly complex conditions based on genetic testing and other advanced diagnostics.
Dr. Lum is a an Integrative and Functional Medicine Specialist. He is one of the only doctors in the Midwest region that specializes in genetic testing in the treatment and prevention of degenerative diseases and conditions. His post-graduate training includes chronic degenerative disease diagnosis, preventative medicine, genetic medicine, and nutritional medicine, as part of the Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Internist program (DABCI). He is also trained in functional medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM).
Dr. Lum is passionate in providing hope for people with complex chronic conditions. He witnessed his mother’s 15 year struggle with Crohn’s disease. This debilitating illness often caused her to be bed-ridden, and experience chronic abdominal pain and digestive problems. She was told that her condition was life-long with no hope of improvement. At the time there were no options for effective treatment, except symptom management. Fortunately with breakthroughs in education and technology we are far better equipped to not only cause disease processes to retreat, but to prevent them altogether. Dr. Lum implements cutting-edge research in treating the underlying causes of disease so that the whole person may be healed.
Genomic medicine is the future of healthcare. Using your unique genes we can precisely identify how to treat and prevent health problems. Before the Human Genome Project in 1990, we thought that our genes dictated what diseases or health problems we would eventually develop. Scientists thought that they would find individual genes for each disease process. We now know that there are dozens to hundreds of genes associated with the development of a particular disease. Science has also determined that our environment (i.e. food, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, toxin burden etc.) can turn on or off genes to either help or hurt our health. Dr. Lum uses genetic testing to identify which processes your body are not working efficiently and then implements treatment to bypass these defects.
It is not uncommon for people to have already seen dozens of doctors and specialists with no real answers or relief prior to being seen by Dr. Lum. His unique approach of using genetic testing and other advanced diagnostics, allows him to precisely personalize treatment in order to get the best possible results and outcome for his patients.
